The relationship between Disney and Square Enix isn't directed by these guidelines that are in place, though.
Ĭonsidering just how long Kingdom Hearts has been running, there is always a question of just how much leeway Disney gives Nomura and his team when it comes to their properties and characters. We considered how their worldview and settings could be used in interesting effect with the particular mechanics and scenario we had written for this installment, and selected them on that basis. Does Disney often intervene to make sure you're utilizing certain properties? Nomura: Disney sometimes does make suggestions, but t he development staff has more sway over worlds and gameplay mechanics*. When pressed about the restrictions that Disney, and now Pixar, would put into place with the adaptations of their films into playable worlds: Nomura doesn't feel that it is all that restricting*, but rather working within the boundaries set by the corporation lets them produce a certain balance that makes the series work. Just for the sake of trivia/further reading, here's some more information on the subject: Unless asked or requested otherwise (such as Pixar asking Square to make an original plot for Toy Box instead of the original plan to rehash the film), Nomura mostly prefers to recreate plots from the original film. That's mostly all on Nomura & his development team.
